Using BIRD for the First Time

Who May Use BIRD

BIRD was designed for active UB students which can include newly accepted students for certain menu applications. If you have not yet been accepted as a student, BIRD cannot recognize you.

Hours of Operation

BIRD is now available seven days per week, 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. EST.

Note: On rare occasions, BIRD may be temporarily unavailable and BIRD will not answer. Try your transactions a little later. Occasionally, on Sunday mornings from 7:00 a.m. - noon, BIRD may be unavailable due to system maintenance.

Your First Call

When you call BIRD, you will immediately be asked to select which menu item you would like to use. Here are the options:

1 Registration Drop/Add
2 Grades
3 Financial Aid
6 PIN Change (not for new users!)
7 End Session

When you have selected the menu options, BIRD will ask you for your 4-digit Personal Identifier Number (PIN). Your first-time PIN has been set to the 2-digit month and 2-digit day of your birth.

Immediately after you enter this information, BIRD requests you to "select your PIN". You must now enter a new, private PIN to replace the initial month-and-day of birth PIN. Once you have set your PIN and successfully passed this Identifier Number/PIN security check, the application you selected will begin.

Getting Help

If you think you need to talk to us (or BIRD says "You need assistance" and then politely hangs up on you), call the Student Response Center Monday-Friday from 8:30 - 5:00 at (716)645-2450 or toll free at 1-866-838-7257. A representative will gladly help you through your first interaction with BIRD.
