How to Read a DARS Report

My UB DARS Requirements Summary Contains:

  • the date on which the DARS report you are looking at was actually created. (This may be relevant if grade changes have been processed, or you change your major between the time your DARS report was produced and the day you bring it up on MyUB.)
  • Catalog Date. There are two catalog dates. The catalog date reported on the DARS report is used for University requirements. Your program requirements are determined by the date you are accepted to the major.
  • your class level and major as of the date your report was prepared.
  • a statement about your status toward academic program completion ("At least one requirement has not been satisfied" is what you'll see.)
  • a list of the subsequent sections of your DARS report prefixed by OK (meaning you have met that requirement) or NO (you have yet to meet that requirement). These are also navigation aids: you can click on any of these sections and be moved directly to that section.

Skills Placement

  • contains the recommendations (based on your test scores) for the level of English and Math courses you should take.

2.00 Minimum GPA Required
120 Minimum Semester Hours Required

These are the first two lines of a succinct status report on your University requirements. Included in this section also are:

  • total of your UB credits and Transfer credits plus your total UB/Transfer GPA (averaged together) beside the word "Earned" [GPA, grade point average, and QPA, Quality Point Average, are the same thing]
  • University at Buffalo GPA only
  • Transfer GPA only
  • A list of all coursework completed or in progress which is being used toward your degree program
  • "Residency Requirement" status (notice that 30 campus-based credit hours must be completed at UB in order to qualify for a UB degree.)

Writing Skills Requirement

  • displays where you stand with respect to completing this requirement. A waiver of this skill counts as a completion and will be so displayed.

Mathematical Science Requirement

  • displays where you stand with respect to completing this requirement. A waiver of this skill counts as a completion and will be so displayed.

General Education Requirements

  • are determined by your catalog date and academic program. There will be specific details in this section as to what you still need to complete, what you have completed, and/or what you are currently enrolled in.

Degree Program

  • will display your first major at the time the DARS report was created and then detail your progress through the program, with courses completed, in progress, and to be completed.  DARS reports for second majors or another major may also be generated

Course Pool

  • contains all the courses which are not being used toward your degree.

Here is a sample DARS report to assist you in becoming comfortable with the report format and location of the records information.
