Financial Aid Disbursements

Students may have credit balances on their accounts as a result of an adjustment or overpayment of the amount due resulting from payment by the student or financial aid.

The chart below lists the distribution of the refunds. For those types of refunds, use the online Refund Request Form (PDF), or pick up a form at the Student Response Center in 232 Capen, North Campus. Also complete a Direct Depost Authorization Form (PDF) for quicker access to your refund.

Financial Aid Type Distribution
Direct Loan Distribution of Direct Loans will begin approximately 10 days prior to the start of classes. Refer to the UB Student Calendars. Please note that Direct Loan funds are refunded without the Refund Request Form.
University Scholarships
  • Academic Excellence Scholarship
  • Dean’s Scholarship
  • Distinguished Honors
  • Empire Minority Scholarships (EMS)
  • Honors Scholarship
  • Performing and Creative Arts
  • Talentship
Scholarships are applied to tuition and fee charges. If a credit results, direct deposit participants will have refunds processed approximately 10 days prior to the start of classes. Check refunds will be mailed to the permanent address.
Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) First half of the refund is mailed to your local address on file (see Student Addresses) prior to the first day of classes. The second half is automatically mailed to your local address after the 5th week of classes.
Institutional Loans & Scholarships After the fifth week of classes, checks will be mailed to your local address on file (see Student Addresses).
Grants/Research Grants
  • State University Supplemental Tuition Award (SUSTA)
  • Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
  • Scholarships administered by NY HESC
  • Third Party Billing
  • Tuition Waivers (All Types)
A Refund Request Form (PDF) must be submitted for these. The refund will be mailed to the address you indicate on the form.
  • Disadvantaged Health Professions Scholarships (DHPS)
  • Exceptional Financial Need (EFN)
  • Health Profession Loan (Dental, Medical, Pharmacy)
  • National Science Scholarship (NSS)
  • Nursing Loan (Graduate & Undergrad)
  • Outside Scholarship
  • Pell
  • Perkins Loan
  • SEOG
  • Non-Resident Alien Scholarships and Fellowships
After the 5th week of classes refunds are automatically mailed to your local address on file (see Student Addresses). NOTE: Complete a Direct Depost Authorization Form (PDF) for quicker access to your refund.
